Electronic Time Switch and Mechanical Time Clocks

Well it is that time of the year again.  A few weeks ago was daylight savings time.  Many of you may have noticed that your outside lighting and parking lot lighting may not be working at the same times they were before.  This could be because your lighting may be controlled by an electronic time switch or mechanical time clock located near your electrical panel or in a mechanical room.  Because of day-light savings time these time clocks need to be manually adjusted, re-programmed or reset.

Here are a few tips for some of the more common types of time clocks:

Mechanical- Mechanical time clocks have a large dial with the days and times located on the dial.  To set the time pull the dial out towards you and aline the proper time on the dial with the arrow.  Then align the “on” tab and “off” tab to the desired times you want your lights to turn on and off.

Electronic- Electronic time switches are a little more difficult.  There are many different types and brands for electronic time switches on the market.  The best way to learn how to program your particular time switch is to execute an internet search for your specific brand and model number.  Once on their website, download the user manual and follow the instructions to reset your clock to the desired times.

**Note: Many electronic time switches have an astronomical feature built into the time clock.  Once enabled, your time switch will automatically adjust with the time changes.  Make sure you follow the instructions to manually enable this feature.

We hope these tips helped answer some of your questions regarding your time clocks and time switches.  If you should have additional questions or need further information, please visit your specific brand’s website or contact our office.
